The World Anti-Doping Agency (Wada) has condemned Russian hackers for leaking confidential medical files of star US Olympic athletes. Likely operating since 2007, the group is known to target government, military, and security organizations.

A group of hackers calling themselves Anonymous Fancy Bears have claimed to hack the official website of World Anti-Doping Agency and Court of Arbitration for Sport (WADA-CAS) again and leak a trove of sensitive data on their website. A few hours later, the group posted a link to a website and leaked email archives with the title “ # WADA vs. # IOC: Fight for Clean Sport or Fight for Power?” Fancy Bear - World in War Fancy Bear (also known as APT28, Pawn Storm, Sofacy Group and Sednit) is a cyber espionage group. The group, known as “Fancy Bear,” posted conspiracy theory-laced, Illuminati-themed, heavily doctored pictures of Olympic officials Wednesday with text teasing a new release. The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirms that, once again today, the cyber hacker Group “Fancy Bear” released a batch of confidential athlete data on their website, which they illegally obtained from a Rio 2016 Olympic Games account of WADA’s Anti-Doping Administration and Management System (ADAMS).

Wada subsequently claimed some of the information released by Fancy Bears did not “accurately reflect” their own records, suggesting some of it had been doctored.
